Wrap up

March Wrap-up and life updates

Hey guys ! March has been a weird month for us all, with everything quarantine… However, the lockdown in France gave me a huge amount of time to read and do other stuff ! For now, here’s my March wrap-up, and see you after the list to talk about March in general 😀

The Heron Kings | Eric Lewis | ⭐⭐⭐⭐ | My review

Here’s a book containing adventure, a great crew of characters, a plot of treachery and so much more ! It was really an entertaining read that I don’t regret.

Pride and Prejudice | Jane Austen | ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ | RTC

I’d been planning to read this for over a YEAR ! I never gathered the courage to actually start it, but somehow this month felt right to start reading classics. In the end, it was a good surprise, as I enjoyed it a lot, and hadn’t expected to. Turns out it motivated me to read more classics and I’m now reading Les Misérables.

Dark Matter | Blake Crouch | ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ | My review

Now that’s a book you need to read once in your life. It’s absolutely mind-blowing and take your brain to places you never knew existed. The science, the anxiety, the characters, everything is so on point here. If everything Blake Crouch writes is as good as this, well I have a new auto-buy author.

House Of Shadows | Darcy Coates | ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ | My review

I had pretty much never read paranormal/gothic/horror fiction, and I now regret that a lot. I need more books like this one. I swear it’s the book I read the fastest this month !

Of Silver and Shadow | Jennifer Gruenke | ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ | RTC

Another super fast read. I loved everything about this book. It has magic, royals, betrayals, rebelious plots, etc. IT HAS IT ALL. I especially loved the characters, and it didn’t hurt there were some minor twists all along the story to keep me surprised at all times.

The Girl of Hawthorn and Glass | Adan Jerreat-Poole | ⭐⭐⭐ | My review

That book was really captivating, mostly due to the fast pace of the plot, and I managed to read it really fast ! I was bothered by how it’s a little confusing sometimes though. The timelines aren’t always very defined when there are flashbacks, the characters are not at the top of their potential and the plot explanations are sometimes a little shaky and I couldn’t understand it all at times. It could use some more work on it.

So March has been really hectic for all of us. Quarantine has taken a large amount of the world, so most of us are to stay home until further notice. Last month, I talked about going to Livres Paris on March 20th, which was supposed to be my first book con ever. Needless to say it was cancelled, so that was a bummer. Of course, it’s for everyone’s safety, so that’s not too big of a deal.

I was also suposed to start an internship next Monday. University said it would all be cancelled and I was really worried about starting a career in book publishing with less work experience than the others, but fortunately, my work tutor said we would be able to move the internship to when the lockdown will be lifted, so that’s a good news ! I’ll be able to intern after all 🎉🎉

Uni was also strange this month, since I still had a few classes and exams to go before the internship in April. However, it turned out pretty fun to use Zoom for our classes ! Some of our teacher had a lot of humour and it was really good for everyone. The exams had to be adapted to be taken online, and it was really nice to not have to be stressed as much as usual for it, since we weren’t really in this alone.

The most stressful event this month though was me having to move out of my flat. I was supposed to leave my flatshare at the end of March to go back in Alsace (500+km distance) with my mom since the internship is close to where she lives. When the lockdown was announced, I was scared I wouldn’t be able to leave the flatshare in time and that I would have to stay there for the whole lockdown (I really didn’t want to). Fortunately, I was able to find an excuse to drive all the way back home and leave the city !

Now with a lot of time on my hands, I’m really enjoying reading more than usual. I also do new things such as learning new languages, colouring books, doing an inventory of the books I own (thanks Kristy for the idea and tips !), playing video games, playing with my cat and writing my masters thesis. To be honest, I think I kind of like being in quarantine haha

What’s your quarantine like ? Are you dealing with it ok ? ❤

Thanks for reading,
Stay safe & home
Jade ❤
